Branding agencies for healthcare and life sciences

Health organisations need to communicate clearly to people with very different knowledge and concerns. A patient looking for care, a clinician evaluating a service and a scientific partner assessing a company should be able to find the information that matters to them.

Compare the work and the fit

Separate care delivery, pharmaceutical corporate branding and health technology when comparing agencies. The examples below show relevant organisational identity work. They do not establish expertise in every clinical discipline or approval process.

This is useful when a broad organisation needs a recognisable identity across different services. Ask how the proposed team would make the relationship between those services clear, and how the design will behave in functional information rather than campaign imagery alone.

Consider this type of experience when the company’s direction needs a clearer corporate expression. Ask how scientific subject experts will participate, which audiences the research will cover and how corporate messages will remain distinct from individual product communications.

This is relevant to a service network with multiple locations and internal teams. Ask for a rollout plan that accounts for patient information, staff tools, signage and digital journeys. Identify which operational changes need to happen alongside the design.

What to put in your brief

  1. Define the organisation and assignment precisely: corporate identity, service navigation, patient communication, product brand or investor story.
  2. List the audiences and the decisions they need to make. Include people who may be under stress or unfamiliar with specialist language.
  3. Set out the organisation’s existing review responsibilities and approval workflow. Build sufficient time for the relevant internal experts.
  4. Request legibility and accessibility checks using real content, including long names, translated text and practical service information.

Questions worth asking

  • Which comparable health assignments did the proposed team deliver?
  • How will you test comprehension with the intended audience?
  • What parts of implementation depend on our clinical, scientific or operational teams?

Common questions

Is a pharmaceutical case relevant to a healthtech startup?

It may offer useful lessons in scientific communication, but examine the scope. A healthtech brief may also require product UX, software positioning and enterprise sales material.

Should the same team handle every communication?

Clarify responsibilities before commissioning. Corporate branding, specialist content and service information may require different expertise and review processes.
